He was awarded the Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Prize in Dresden in 1957, and was later active as both a musician and composer in Sweden from 1958 onwards. He had his Swedish debut as a composer in 1960, with a concert/radio recording performance. Böttcher arrived in Trondheim, Norway in 1968 as a member of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra.
